We compare trips and explain rules. We do not run tours, we do not take payment for placement, and when we are not sure of something we say so on the page.
The person behind it
Written by a working Utah guide
This site is written by a working Utah guide and Wilderness First Responder. You will not find a name or a headshot anywhere on it, and that is deliberate.
The reasoning is simple. A name on a page is not evidence of anything. Anyone can put a photograph and a biography on a website, and plenty of sites that know nothing about this country do exactly that. What should earn your trust is whether the page tells you something true that you could not easily find elsewhere, whether it admits what it does not know, and whether it holds up when you check it against the source.
Judge the page, not the byline. Every claim here is traceable to something you can read yourself.
So instead of a biography, every page carries the date its facts were last checked and names the source behind the numbers that matter. Where a land manager and a route guide disagree, we publish both figures rather than the tidier one. Where we have not verified something, the page says so in as many words.
Method
How facts get checked
The rule is that a claim about rules, fees, mileages or access has to come from the agency that manages the ground, not from another travel site. In this area that means BLM, the National Park Service for Glen Canyon, Utah State Parks, and the Federal Register for anything to do with the monument boundary.
- Land manager pages and official documents first, always.
- Where two reliable sources disagree, we print both and say they disagree. The Hole-in-the-Rock Road length, the Peek-a-boo entry climb and the Devils Garden mileage are all live examples.
- Operator claims are attributed to the operator rather than asserted as fact, including when an operator says something against its own commercial interest, which is usually the most useful thing on their site.
- Anything seasonal carries a visible checked date, because road conditions and hours move and a page without a date is a page you cannot judge.
- We do not publish a figure we cannot source. Where a number is widely repeated online but not confirmed by a land manager, we say that too.
There is one area where we are deliberately more cautious than everyone else, which is the 2026 monument boundary change. The places named in the proclamation are certain. Individual canyons come from independent mapping rather than the official boundary data, and those rows are tagged as unconfirmed until that changes.
Be suspicious of sites that skip this
How this site makes money
At the time of writing it does not. There are no affiliate links on this site, no sponsored placements, no paid listings and no advertising. Every operator named on the outfitters page is there because BLM authorises them or because they are based here, and none of them has paid a penny or been asked to.
What will change, and when
The intention is to add affiliate links to booking platforms at some point, which would mean this site earns a commission if you book through a link here at no extra cost to you. When that happens this paragraph gets rewritten on the day it goes live, the links get marked, and the disclosure goes on every page that carries one. If you are reading this and it still says there are none, there are none.
The reason to tell you this plainly is that it constrains what we can honestly write. A site paid per booking has a reason to tell you that you need a guide. We can tell you that you mostly do not, which is the single most useful thing anyone can say about the slot canyons here, because day use is free, needs no permit and has no reservation system.
Where we do recommend paying somebody, the reasoning is on the page: the monsoon, technical ground, a quiet canyon, or not wanting to drive 26 miles of dirt road.

When we get something wrong
Tell us
If a ranger, a permit officer or an operator has told you something that contradicts a page here, we want to know. Firsthand corrections from people who work on this ground are worth more than another round of desk research.
What we do
Fix it, change the checked date, and where the error mattered, say on the page what it used to say. We do not quietly edit a page and pretend it always read that way.
Rules here change more than in most places. A proclamation redrew the monument on 11 September 2026, a guide service closed its shuttle operation this year while still appearing on the current BLM list, and the agencies' own pages have not caught up with either. Anything on this site could be out of date by the time you read it, which is why the dates are there.
Boundaries
Things we will not do
- Invent a number. If we cannot source a figure, the page says the figure is unconfirmed rather than repeating what other sites say.
- Rate or price small properties. Rates move nightly and star ratings on owner run places tell you very little. Where to stay gives names and types and leaves the rest to you.
- Imply an operator is unlawful. BLM permits companies under legal names that often differ from their trading names, so absence from a published list proves nothing, and we say that wherever the list appears.
- Tell you a hike is easy when it is not. Spooky is about ten inches wide at points and people turn around there every day. That belongs on the page.
- Take a side on the monument. People here hold strong and opposing views about the boundary change. Our job is telling you accurately what the rules are when you arrive.
Everything on the site is built to answer one question: does this make it easier for you to visit this place confidently and choose the right trip. If a page is not doing that, it should not exist.
